This week we tackle a somewhat flawed, but deep episode focused around Asuka. Setting out to prove that she is a worthy pilot, Asuka finds herself at the mercy of the next angel. Will she survive the attack? Find out in our review of Episode 22, “Staying Human.”
We have so few episodes left, and we get a whole episode of background information. The crew have mixed feelings about this one, and we may have gotten off track more than once. Join us on a journey to learn more about NERV in the aptly titled Episode 21, “The Birth of NERV.”
Episode 20 is…well, it’s an episode of Evangelion. It’s mostly recap and Shinji losing his mind after being absorbed by Unit 01. We do our best this week! Hope you enjoy our not-so-deep dive into Episode 20, “Of the Shape of Hearts and Humans.”
Welcome back, fans! Shinji runs out on NERV, but he is drawn back to get in the damn mech and fight a seemingly unbeatable angel. I know, they have done this plot two other times already. But this one ends with a gruesome ending when Shinji’s Eva gets a serious case of the munchies. Join us for a review of Episode 19, “A Man’s Battle.”
Welcome to the second half of this two-part saga! What does the crew have to do when an Eva turns on them? The answer isn’t a pleasant one, especially for Shinji. We may have another good episode on our hands as we review Neon Genesis Evangelion Episode 18, “Life and Death Decisions.”
Welcome to the first of a two part set of Evangelion episodes. This week we find out that there will be a new Eva pilot. And the only one that doesn’t seem to figure it out is Shinji. Not a ton happens in Episode 17, “Fourth Child,” but we still have a ton of fun breaking down the episode. And going off on the occasional tangent.
Is Evangelion starting to get good? Or is it just getting so weird and surreal that we’re tricking ourselves into thinking it’s actually a good anime? Either way, Episode 16, “The sickness unto death, and then…” is actually pretty enjoyable! We have our audio issues figured out, and we came through with a new episode in just a week this time! We hope you all enjoy our deep dive into this one. Bill even has a pretty in-depth theory at the end of this review.
We’re back! Apologies at the top here. Andy’s audio went wrong during recording, so we took extra time to try and make it the best we can. We got the issue figured out in our later episodes.
This week we are tackling two different episodes. The first is a clip show with some added bits of information and weirdness, and the second is a much more interesting episode with a few problematic and confusing moments. So basically, it’s business as usual with Evangelion. Check out our takes on Episode 14, “Seele, the Seat of the Soul,” and Episode 15, “Lies and Silence.”
Man, the bad episodes keep on coming. This one was so bad, one of the three hosts left the call partway through. You’ll have to listen to find out which one (though it may be easy to guess). This week Evangelion attempts a thrilling hacker story akin to The Matrix or…Sneakers? You learn about this movie Sneakers from Matt this time around, too. Honestly, we get off topic a lot, and it’s more fun than talking about Episode 13 of Neon Genesis Evangelion, “Angel Infiltration.”
It’s another stinker episode of Evangelion this week. So we’re a little extra goofy to make up for it. Please excuse Matt’s cold. He’s feeling much better now. And Andy feels better after finishing up this episode. We promise the anime does get better eventually! For now, join us in our discussion of Episode 12 of Neon Genesis Evangelion, “A Miracle’s Worth.”
