I've inhabited this planet for thirty years, teach high school English, enjoy reading and writing, play the occasional video and tabletop game, and am completing my thesis over the teaching and censorship of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.
While you wait for the start of Season 9, enjoy a few extra special episodes! Our first post-FLCL episode ties back to an episode last season where the anime name dropped the 1970s tokusatsu show Robot Detective! This week we watched the first two episodes (links below) and gave our full breakdown. And we laugh a lot, too. We hope you enjoy, and seriously go watch the episodes of this weird little show!
It’s time, everyone! We say farewell to FLCL in this mega final review of the series as a whole. This episode has everything: some trivia, a deep dive into the characters and themes of the show, a comparison to Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, our revised anime rankings, and the big reveal of what we are watching for Season 9! This episode is definitely a must-listen episode!
Somehow we have already found our way to the end of FLCL! This week we go over Episode 6, “FLClimax”! And what a climax it is! Well, kinda. We’ll explain in our review. What will come out of Naoto’s head this time around? Who knows! What we do know is that next time we’ll have our fill breakdown of the series, including a comparison between this show and the other two Studio Gainax anime that we have covered (Evangelion and Gurren Lagann).
Thanks for your continued support! See you all in 2023!
Happy Holidays, everyone! As much of the Midwest settles in for blizzard-like conditions and various sicknesses have been running rampant, you might find yourself with a little more time indoors. Why not spend that listening to this year’s holiday episode! This time around we review a very special Christmas episode of the wacky anime Samurai Pizza Cats! We had a great time with this one, and we hope you do, too. Have a safe and happy holiday season, fans!
We’re back with another wild episode of FLCL to discuss. In Episode 5, “Brittle Bullet,” things get a heck of a lot hornier, and there’s at least 200% more guns. And hands. It’s a weird episode. And that’s even by the standards of FLCL. Just one more episode to go in this season. Will we actually get some actual plot, or will this just be an experiment in frustration? Guess you’ll have to listen to this week’s episode to find out!
For our American listeners, Happy Thanksgiving! We want to make your holiday a little brighter and maybe more chaotic (in a good way, not in a dealing with your racist uncle kind of way). So enjoy our latest review of FLCL! If football after a big meal isn’t your thing, then what about a little baseball? Come swing the bat with us as we review Episode 4, “Full Swing.”
No new FLCL review this week as the crew tries to get their shit together and record. Until then, enjoy one of our Patreon bonus episodes! It’s the 4th episode of our series Tooning In. You can find more episodes in this series on our Patreon, which is linked below. Bill picks Attack on Titan, and we rewatch the first episode and give our first impressions of this monstrous, massive anime series!
Is this an actual entertaining episode of FLCL? You betcha! You might say this episode is the cat’s pajamas. A purrfect blend of story and humor. You should be all ears for this week’s episode, a review of FLCL Episode 3, “The Marquis de Carabas.”
Well, we have another episode of FLCL to talk about and go onto weird side tangents. If this show is good for anything thus far, it’s been their weird references to other things, such as Robot Detective K, which might be Andy’s new favorite thing. This episode involves arson and another head robot. So basically much of the same. Join us for our review of Episode 2, “Fire Starter.”
It’s Season 8, baybee! We’ve come around to Bill’s next pick, FLCL! The crew of Bill, Matt, and Andy dive into the deep end of craziness as they review the very first episode of the OVA, “Fooly Cooly.” This is normally the part where we give a short summary of what to expect, but if you have seen FLCL before, you know that’s pretty impossible. The music is good at least! Enjoy!
